Karachi is the largest city in Pakistan and seventh largest city in the world. It is also called “The City of Lights” and generates approximately 20% of Pakistan’s GDP. But the people of Karachi are facing many problems regarding basic necessities. One of the main problem is water crisis and its supply issue.

Karachi’s water supply is transported to the city through a complex network of canals, conduits, and siphons, with the aid of pumping and filtration stations. But unfortunately due to shortage of water it barely reaches to its destination. So consumer had to buy it from private water tankers in almost doubled or thrice the price. Furthermore, with no check in place, local valve men of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) have become a powerful mafia and distribute water unfairly. Due to this, some areas suffer acute water scarcity and some other localities are even deprived of a single drop of water. The crisis could endanger the law and order situation in the city.

I think that this problem is getting worst day by day. People have to schedule their showers, ration their water storage and had to wait for the water to come. They even scheduled different days for different areas for water supply by there own which they change randomly without informing. So one had to keep checking by turning on the pump all the day which is highly inconvenient.

The Government federal as well as provincial are still not serious about this basic need. I have come up with a solution that can help in reducing the water crisis. As Karachi is located with Arabian sea, we can install water filtration and purification plants as many countries are using this and this can help in reducing water crisis in Karachi.

Secondly, we can place meters or sensors for the pumps that turn on and off automatically when there is water supply or not. This will help in getting rid of checking manually all the day. The meters or sensors that are supposed to be placed must be cheaper, economical and compatible with all sorts of pumps or motors.
